IPOH, Feb 7 -- The police 'short-circuited' an attempt to steal a transformer, following the arrest of three men near the Tekah Industrial Area in Simpang Pulai today.
The suspects were ferrying the RM100,000 transformer in a lorry when a police team intercepted them about 9am.
The unit belonged to a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) sub-station in the industrial area.
Ipoh police chief ACP Azisman Alias said the suspects, in their 40s, had claimed they were paid to send the transformer to a location in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.
In another development, a transport company operator was found dead in Sungai Perak near Teluk Intan today.
He was identified as B. Muniandy, 57, of Jalan Merbuk, Teluk Intan.
Passers-by found his body afloat about 10am and reported to the police.
Hilir Perak police chief ACP Goh Kok Liang said Muniandy was reported missing by his family, two days ago.
