United's wish list : World class Striker and Goalkeeper

With Ferguson rumoured to start spending the 80 million pounds on a world class striker and goalkeeper in the coming summer to take off some burden placed on the shoulder on Wayne Rooney and as a back-up for the soon to be 40 years old Edwin van der Sar, Pagi.com review some candidates that United might pursue in the coming summer.

Goalkeeper

Andres Palop , Sevilla , Age 35

Spain is a hotbed of goalkeeping talent at the moment, and one of the reasons is Andres Palop. Proved to be very reliable stopper at Sevilla for a few good seaons now, however his age could be a stumbling block as United is seeking a long term successor for Edwin van der Sar.

Julio Cesar , Inter Milan , Age 29
Julio Cesar won the arm wrestling with Toldo at Inter Milan, and never looked back since. One of the factor Milan won three consecutive titles, his reflex save and calmness has put him among the best in his position. Though any imminent move to United seems unlikely.

Gianlugi Buffon , Juventus , Age 30
Gigi Buffon is on top of every club's wanted list. Got a record breaking 4 times IFHHS World Goalkeeper of the Year winner, with more points accumulated in this award than anybody else, ever, including Peter Schmeichel and Oliver Kahn. Pagi feels there is only few clubs that can tempt Buffon away from Juventus, that being Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona cause any move to other than this 3 clubs would be consider a step back.

With Real Madrid and Barcelona not needing a goalkeeper and the the fact Juventus is struggling to challenge for major honours and facing the prospect of losing out on champions league spot next year, United could may well prise Buffon away from Stadio delle Alpi with gigantic offer.

Striker

Luis Fabiano , Sevilla , Age 29
Fabiano has tricks up his sleeves, pace and flair and is well suited to the counter attacking plays United is famous for. Been very consistent for Sevilla in the past few seasons and alongside Freddie Kanoute they have formed a deadly partnership feared by defenders.

However, very few South Americans has succeeded in the Red Shirt of Manchester, Juan Veron and Kleberson being a very good example. Ferguson should noticed that and Pagi will be surprised Fabiano move to England materialised.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar , AC Milan , Age 26
Huntelaar's move to AC Milan didn't really work out as it should been, he looked like a shadow of himself when donning the black and red shirt. Could be that he couln't adapt to the tactical aspect of the Italian game.

A cut price offer from United could offer him a route out, and Pagi predict the pace and physical aspect of the English game will see the best out of him. A very similar mould to Nistelrooy, Huntelaar's poacher instinct and precise finishing is what United lack of in recent years after the departure of Nistelrooy and the retirement of Solskjaer.

David Villa , Valencia , Age 28
This is easy, if you buy Villa, you are buying goals in abundance. Villa is on the radar of United for quite some time now, only the resistance from Valencia preventing him from moving abroad. However, with Valencia's debts not improving, the club may be forced to offload the likes of Villa and Silva to balance the cheque books.

If United sniff an opening, Pagi feels United would definitely snap him up with a substantial offer. Berbatov as the target man up front equipped with delicate touches and vision providing through ball and lay offs and with Villa and Rooney making runs behind defender, it will be nightmares for BPL's backline.
