Auxiliary policemen to help combat street crimes


KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 -- A total of 415 auxiliary policemen from 19 government-linked companies (GLC), statutory companies and local government will assist the police in combating street crimes.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop said the auxiliary policemen, who were from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor, would be on duty in complexes and the streets in their areas.

Speaking to reporters after visiting Metro Prima, Kepong here today, he said the cooperation was aimed at reducing street crimes by 20 per cent this year as charted by the Home Ministry's National Key Results Areas.

He said crime cases in the capital dropped by 1,911 cases to 4,567 in the first two months this year compared to 6,478 cases in the corresponding period last year.

Street crimes in Kuala Lumpur dropped by 1,236 cases to 1,647 cases in the first two months this year compared to 2,883 cases in the corresponding period last year.
